3-Star Stay: Good Food, Poor Cooling
I would give this resort 3 stars overall. The grounds were always very clean, and the staff were consistently kind and welcoming throughout our stay. The resort itself was also very lush and tropical, with beautiful greenery and well-maintained landscaping throughout the property, which made it feel relaxing and scenic. The food was also good overall, with a decent variety and enjoyable meals throughout the trip. My biggest issue was the lack of air conditioning throughout the resort. My room air conditioning would not go below 24°C, which made sleeping uncomfortable at times. The buffet area was even worse, as there was absolutely no air conditioning there at all. Eating in that heat every day became something I genuinely dreaded. Even though the food was kept on ice, you could visibly see condensation forming on the trays because of how hot and humid it was. It made the dining experience very uncomfortable for me. The beach was also difficult for me because of the large amount of sargassum. I am sensitive to smells, and the odor was quite nauseating at times. Overall, there were definitely positives, especially the cleanliness, tropical atmosphere, good food, and friendly staff, but the lack of proper cooling and the beach conditions had a major impact on my experience. I will not be returning.

Lack of AC brings my rating down .
I rated this resort a 3 due to a few issues we had. We booked a superior ocean view and were put in room 1308, close to pool and beach. However the ac would not got below 26.5°c (79.7°f). We spent many hours waiting for maintenance to come fix it and it did not get fixed. The next day, the same thing so they moved us next door to rm 1306. Original room was one king bed and was much larger than the new room that had two queens. So we are basically downgraded because they couldn't get the AC fixed however, the AC in this room wasn't much better. It did finally get down to 24.5°c or 76°f which is where it remained for the rest of our trip. After spending lots of time out in the sun and heat, you just want a nice cool room to go back to and This didn't cut it. It was also very far from the lobby, as the walk was very long to get out to the buffet, the courtyard area and the restaurants. The pool was very nice and we had a good time there. Unfortunately, the beach was filled with seaweed every day, and we were unable to get in the water. People did, however, get in, but it required you to walk-through about a foot of seaweed to get into the water. We ate at cosmopolitan restaurant which was absolutely excellent. We also ate at the Mexican restaurant, which was really just mediocre. The buffet was plentiful and we could always find something to eat there. my husband is a smoker and one of the things that he commented was that the smokers need a more open area to smoke. All of the spots are kind of tucked back in among the trees and it just kind of holds the smoke in there due to no ventilation. The staff was all wonderful, especially the bartenders at the lobby bar in the pool bar. I also visited the spa as the resort offered me a complementary massage to compensate for the heat in our room. Araceli was my massage therapist and she was wonderful. The resort is a medium sized resort but requires lots of walking depending on the building you are in. The shops at the end of the entrance are nice and convenient. You can be on 5th av in PDC for a $10 cab ride. The location is great and I would have rates this higher had we not had such issues with our Air Conditioning

A Fantastic Family Vacation
Our family of 2 parents and 2 adult children visited the Viva Azteca for 7 days recently. It was our first all inclusive experience, so we have nothing to compare it to. What we can all tell you is that it was a wonderful stay. The resort is the perfect size, the food was great overall, our room, though modest was all that we needed, the hospitality and cleaning staff were incredibly attentive and kind and the entertainment staff were exceptional. This hotel is not huge, it is just right. It is clean and pretty with lots of areas to hang out and enjoy. We started most of our days with an exercise activity (pool exercise our favourite), participated in many of the offered programs by staff Ixel, Alejandro, and other enthusiastic recreation staff, we swam in the pool, spent afternoons under the palm trees (always a lounge chair available), swam in the ocean (sargassum present but not a big deal) and played hours of volleyball every day. After a delicious dinner, we attended every show on the stage (the dancers were exceptional, especially Daisy who always took the time to say hello) then we spent the evening in the bar/disco. By day 3 we decided to soak up all that the hotel had to offer instead of heading out on excursions and we have no regrets. As an English speaking Canadian family, we noted that there were so many people from around the world at the hotel. Everyone trying to speak or communicate, whether or not we all shared the same language. This made the trip very special as we all muddled through our insecurities of other languages to share our holiday fun. Our young adult kids made friends with so many others communicating by playing sports, activities, dancing, and laughter. We chose this hotel on a whim, largely because of the photos of the resort. We chose right and made very happy memories.

Great stay at the Wyndham Azteca!
We absolutely loved our stay at this resort! The rooms were spotless, spacious, and the beds were extremely comfortable—perfect for relaxing after a day in the sun. The staff were outstanding—so friendly and always willing to go above and beyond to help. You can really tell they care about the guests’ experience. The hotel itself is beautifully maintained and very clean throughout. The buffet had a great selection with plenty of variety, and we were always able to find something we enjoyed. We also loved the coffee house at the resort—amazing coffee and a great selection of fresh baked treats. The pool area was fantastic, and the beach was simply stunning. We never had any trouble finding loungers, and there were lots available in the shade, which we really appreciated. We highly recommend this resort and will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Playa del Carmen!
