  Use your Safe !

  19th time to Mexico, However, it’s the first time I had an item stolen from room at any all inclusive resort in any country we have travelled to. Shame on me leaving my watch in my makeup bag on the bureau, and shame on the worker who thought it was okay to steal it from our room. I didn’t misplace it, or loose it. Just my neglect in locking it up in the Safe. Although on many trips I have left items of value out in room, we have never had anything taken. Travelers Beware coming to this hotel– lock it all up! I reported it, and requested they need to keep an eye on their workers particularly who swiped in/out of our room while we were at a timeshare presentation. Lesson Learnt, never to be lax and Lock ALL stuff up! Secrets is a small resort with 3 pools, most everything spread out along the beach, so a few of the restaurants have great water views. Room was well appointed with comfortable bed and bedding. Check in to the preferred club = mucho patience needed, only 1 person to check everyone in. The resort is older as many reviewers state, and it is a very Average resort, we would have never known we were staying at a “Secrets” Brand. We were in building 7 – Preferred Club – and all worked fairly well. We had a perfect week of weather, but departure day was a torrential downpour of rain. We visited the spa for massages and they were excellent! The hydrotherapy was very good as well. Lovely spa – & service was free in exchange for our time to sit through the 2 hour presentation, well worth it! Drinks - Wine was a decent Chilean. Beer on tap is DosEquis; They had Tecate, Tecate light, Heineken, Amstel Ultra and Coors light in cans & lots of Brand named Alcohol. Drinks were very good and Jonathan at the Preferred pool bar is a star! Restaurants were okay, nothing that warranted a repeat or delicious factor. The servers are all run ragged at all the restaurants, shame they don’t hire more to give the guests a more relaxed evening dining experience. Breakfasts were good, mimosa’s and Caesars and buffet or a la carte dining options. A variety of choices for lunch – buffet, a la carte and/or bar-b-que were good; Suppers were just ok. We had the Dreams restaurants options as part of preferred and You can walk on the beach to the Dreams day or night and it takes just a couple minutes. We also paid for the romantic dinner on the beach for our anniversary, (albeit discounted for doing the Time Share Speil) and it was very well done for ambiance, however the meal was sub-par; I got not a full lobster tail as advertised but a cut in Half lobster tail – what? And hubby got boiled shrimp (which were supposed to be ham wrapped) The steak served was still moo-ing, so I had to send it back, and we didn’t get to eat our meals together. Meal was a fail, but the setting/sunset was beautiful. Beach – water is extremely rocky BRING WATER SHOES. Beach sand awesome and no sargassum. Snorkeling off the beach was Meh. It is the preferred padded chairs on beach that go quick and where the towel game is alive and well, otherwise there are plenty of non-preferred loungers around the various pools/beach you will be able to find during the mornings. Beach drink service was good and appreciated, and towels were available for the taking anytime. Evening entertainment was Not very good and very amateur. There was nothing to look forward to at night. Sure the sunsets were great up at the skybar - but what a boring area. The hotel is so missing an opportunity in making it fabulous up at the skybar. Zero Ambiance in décor/seating for such an amazing Sunset view area. We had 2 nights in the week that were Karaoke entertainment, Thanks Secrets – we, as guests have to provide the entertainment. Lol. Another night it was bingo……seriously? They had one band one evening, but they really miss the boat where they hold the entertainment by coco cafe. Change the location – its awful and not enough seating! Kind of sad that karaoke night was the highlight of entertainment provided. With previous visits to AM Resorts (now Hyatt) we have had amazing entertainment & the Grand Park Royal in Cozumel which had hands down better entertainment than this Secrets. There was daily yoga on the beach and exercise and games at the busy pool. Overall, we got a decent deal due to the construction next door (Sunscape Sabor Hotel turning into Dreams), which did not cause any inconvenience, and Secrets price was lower than so many other Caribbean options due to fuel prices/Cuba closed, etc. etc. so we were somewhat satisfied due to the price we paid, however, this is a very average resort and if you have issues, be prepared to be frustrated with the old run around they give you as so many guests were including ourselves. It’s a discounted Secrets for a reason.

  Third Time Charm

  Third time return over 12 years and still enjoying Secrets Aura . Although the resort is in need of make over in the main pool / ocean view / swim up rooms . Understandable why it is or will be the last to receive an update because it is the most desirable area and presuming it is their money maker . It is the area my wife and I love being in . All rooms have fantastic ocean views and are very large spaces . The furniture, drapery, bathrooms , all need to be changed out . Noticeable the 32 in tv on a swivel bracket in the corner is dated from 20 years ago . So with that said , we still love the resort and will return. Interesting, Secrets Aura is always selling packages for 25% less then all of the other Secrets in the Caribbean. So enjoy the savings . If you want to be in an upgraded suite , they have them in two other sections. We go to Cozumel for the almost seaweed free ocean and beach . Yes one day a week a small amount will float in on the beach , then the next 6 days it is gone . From the third and fourth floor on the ocean view rooms , looking out in the ocean a good distance, you can see often large blobs of sargassum floating a mile or two out and with the direction the wind blows it is heading over to the Maya Riveria side . Just go , lower your expectations and enjoy . We definitely enjoyed.

  Great staff, beach and view

  Beautiful property and the workers are so friendly! I definitely want to recognize Angel my VIP services rep. Our room didnt have hot water and he hot us upgraded to a beautiful ocean view swimout. He was so friendly and attentive! Also the entertainment staff was a lot of fun. Artemio, Carlos, Luz and Aaron were all high energy and hilarious. There werent many people at the resort but they still made karaoke and pool volleyball a lot of fun. Also the Market care team of Eloisa, kenia, Mario, Ricardo, Rene,and Moises took great care of me and my wife every breakfast and lunch. The food was good to me but the service is amazing! Thank you all so much for making our anniversary so special! You all deserve a raise in pay for the extra effort you put in!   I want to return

  Loved everything other than they could use more seating at the beach and pools. Appears to be space so I’m not sure what the issue is ? Loved the food & the staff we interacted with . We did not partake in evening entertainment too much day drinking🤣 We upgraded to preferred club. Only difference was better room & preferred lounge . All else was used by everyone , all food , all pools, all beach areas, accessing Dreams restaurants.

  Would recommend to everyone!!!!

  My husband and I just got back from our honeymoon and i can not recommend this place enough! When they say "welcome home" they truly mean it. The staff is what makes this place so special! Our favorite restaurant was Market cafe for breakfast in the morning. The mangos and french toast are incredible! The best part though was Eloisa, Kenia, Viridiana, Mario, Ricardo, Rene, Moises, and Gaspar! Those are just the few names I remember. We got to know each one of them through our morning breakfast and they helped to us on our Spanish daily! My husband has a shellfish allergy and by day 4 every staff member automatically knew when checking us in at each restaurant. Marcel at Gohan was also extremely helpful at helping with my Spanish. She went out of her way to come say hi when we passed her at the resort and she would help to expand my conversations. I may not know the names of the rest of the staff, but I want them to know they did not go unnoticed. The maids and janitorial staff where incredibly. Our room was mopped and swept each day, bed made, and she even organized my shoes for me! The beach and walk ways were swept each morning and night. Wendy served us drinks while we were on the beach and she timed each drink perfectly. We never had an empty glass on our table. Marco checked us in and helped us to book excursions through Amstar with Salvador. Salvador was particularly helpful at making sure we knew what to bring with us to each excursion. At one point I had lost my original ticket and easily just went down to the service desk and they were able to reprint my ticket out. You can go anywhere for an all-inclusive resort with the amenities this one has, but this kind of service is not found just anywhere. If you're thinking about booking go ahead and do so. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! P.S. book the snorkeling excursion if you go, insanely beautiful
