  Great hotel......questionable staff and service!

  My family and I visited from August 17th to 22nd, 2026. There were 13 of us in total, we had 4 rooms: 5206,4210, 6213 and 5220. Two of the rooms were diamond club rooms. We had much to celebrate: my dad just turned 70, my son turned 18, it was my 20th wedding anniversary and my niece just received results for a major exam....her birthday was also a couple days before we arrived. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted and even told that our room was upgraded free of charge....we were happy although we were all exhausted after leaving our home 12hours before! We decided to get lunch before going to the room and when we got there, our bags were already there. On entering the room however, the musty scent was overpowering! There was hair about the ground, the glass enclosure to the shower was covered with soap scum, there was a plastic cigarette filter on our carpet. We were so tired that we ignored it....we figured things would have been improved after the maid came.....maybe the room was not used for some time? We are easy going people and only make a big deal when necessary. We were told that we had to use the app to make reservations......none were available for the first few nights of our stay....i figured my parents would have better luck but, their butler informed them that he had to put in a request and wait for confirmation....OK, no problem, most of us ate at the buffet that night and my kids and I visited the restaurant Under the sea......when we got there, our reservation was not in the system but we were allowed to dine which I was grateful for. The were also a lot of great activities available for all ages though out the day and night which kept us occupied ! My kids enjoyed the kids club, the water park and pool activities! These were greatly appreciated since there was a lot of sea weed on the beach! Ok, the things which caused the poor review - two members of our group booked a room with two beds and got one with a king bed. This should have been an easy fix, the issue however is that they had to stay in the lobby for hours to deal with this situation.. .even had to fill out paperwork.....madness!! Which would have been stressful and taken away time from enjoying their vacation! Next, my brother has a 4 year old and into the wee hours of the morning, the smoke detector went off......you could imagine their state then and for all of the other day! They reported it to the front desk who promised to send someone to fix it. Next night....same thing!!!! The following day, we had to babysit because he and his wife were at the front desk for hours and hours trying to get a new room! It really put a damper on our vacation......these are things that should be dealt with easily! At the end, they were given a different room, and had to pack up everything and move! They were offered a cabana on the beach! How is that helping????? After some more discussion, there were offered hotel points to be used at another hotel which they accepted and also which to this day, they have not received. As for us, we arrived on monday...the cigarette filter was still there on Tuesday and then again on Wednesday! I spoke to someone in guest services about it on Wednesday and finally, the room was cleaned! Our toilet had flushing issues and our phone didn't work so we always made the treck to the front desk! Sometimes, it was difficult to get towels for our room since a couple times, the maid seemed to forget our room and you had to grab up beach towels early to ensure that they did not run out. I eventually visited the front desk to make dinner reservations as there never was availability on the app. I must thank Darianna who assisted with all of my reservations. The other members of my group in diamond club seemed to have a more difficult time than us in getting reservations and only after becoming frustrated and visited the front desk was the butler able to get them reservations. Honestly, I could not see what the hype was in paying extra money for diamond especially since after the first day there there was no more jhonny walker black!!! I also felt as though a lot of the staff, treated us differently due to the colour of our skin......seemed like lighter colored people tipped better. On the 19th, there were heavy rains, thunder, lightning and very strong winds. The power went out as well. Some of the walking paths were flooded. We had to walk a long way and my son left his cap and rayban sunglasses with a member of staff on the ground floor of building 6 in the guest services area. We never saw his stuff again! The person stole it and the front desk staff dealt with the issue poorly. We went every day to look at the stuff in lost and found....nothing. We filled out paperwork and were told that the investigation would last 72 hrs. We we told that even after we left, we would be contacted via e mail about the issue....nothing. The thing is, if you know the time and place, then you know who would have been on duty!!! Nedless to say, after that issue i think, we were all beat! We really tried our best and wanted to have a great family vacation. We pushed alot of stuff aside and didn't make a big deal about many things. But when you sacrifice, make plans and save for a vacation and the people who are supposed to make your trip worth it steal from you, make things difficult and treat you differently from others around, it is quite disheartening . When we returned home, my parents and brother were quite ill. My brother was actually hospitalized for 2 days and the diagnosis was that he had poorly cooked seafood!! They visited Under the sea on their last night and all had the same thing to eat!! The property is very nice, most of the staff is pleasant and helpful but ALL people should be treated well!! On my visits to the front desk, there always was someone else there who was complaining about treatment and ......our skin colour seemed similar!!! I really don't understand the specialty restaurants either, the buffet food seemed to be the same thing in the other restaurants and tasted better!!

  Not 5 star luxury but nice hotel

  We really liked this hotel. Some guests had complaints about their rooms, particularly block 1 but we stayed in 2 rooms in block 1 and had no issues. Room pics below. They closed the Splash buffet which meant the Grazia Italian/daytime beach grill was used as buffet for Splash for a few days. They then closed Grazia which put pressure on main PC buffet restaurant. This wasn't planned well by the management and I could hear customers from PC shouting at staff due to delays in getting tables. Poor management decision to save costs and not fair on the staff or guests. We could always find something to eat at the buffet but they need to keep their food and plates hot. That's my only complaint. Tepinyaki was great and we had amazing brisket at Hunters. Pool area and grounds lovely. Beach ok, looks pretty but there are better in the area. Overall we had a lovely time. Don't tend to return to the same places but probably would return here if the price was right. Not a luxury hotel but I didn't pay the price for a luxury hotel so certainly wasn't disappointed.

  A great time!

  We had a great time during our stay. The staff is exceptionally friendly and their service was great. The family enjoyed this 5th yearly stay as it was our first. We love the people of Royalton Punta Cana!!!

  A Very Happy Visit

  We had a very nice time with our 5 day stay. The hotel stay was great. Room with the diamond club was beautiful and clean. Room service was good but no face towels delivered with cleaning. Our butler Mr Antonio handled that and was excellent. He was at our service and provided daily info on food locations and activities each day. He handled us from check in day to each day we were there. Always a Good Morning Text with checking in and asking how our day went later. Our last day went smoothly at checkout as Mr Antonio was there and made sure our checkout was a success. He was very attentive and did his job very well. Thank you Royalton Punta Cana and Mr Antonio for a beautiful vacation experience.

  Horrible experience overall

  Okay so here’s an honest review. The room was horrible I had no hot water tv or ac for days on end. Then I signed up for prime travelers club and nothing changed so I cancelled the next day and when doing so Sean jones the administrator of the club upstairs threatened to get me escorted off the premises because he wanted to take 745 USD$ for a fee which was never informed. Overall the entertainment was okay and the circus night was the best with face painting and clowns etc. but I would not come back and hope that Sean does get fired for his unprofessionalism and charging my card which I did have to call the bank for. The workers there are great overworked and unfortunately under paid. And room service sucks!
