  RIU Flamingos - even better with the new look and name!!

  We just had a great week at the RIU Flamingos, having stayed there several times previous to the massive renovation. The updates to the property are amazing; from the new pools and shade pergolas, to the new restaurants, and newly appointed common areas and rooms. The weekly RIU Party was amazing as usual, with the White being the highlight of the week. The Michael Jackson show was great as always, and the resident entertainment team were a mixture of talent - the gals were much more gifted than the fellas in terms of dancing and stage presence. Special shout outs to Caleb, Grisel, and Barbara in the buffet restaurant; as well as bartenders Jassiel, Dexter, and Armando, who were total professionals. All in all, another great experience, and we are already planning our next visit.

  THE ABSOLUTE WORST!!

  SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLES!! TRUST ME! This was the absolute worst hotel stay that we have ever had! I am not sure if it's just the RIU brand, or if it is just this property in particular, but we will NEVER EVER visit here again! The staff is rude, unhelpful, and care very little for tourist/guests. They are more centered around their comfortability with the locals, and as such, they are more attentive to them. The front desk staff are rude and unpleasant and offer no courtesy our pleasantries when checking in. No information on the property or where anything is located was provided. No welcome or discussion about the resort/what to know, where to go for what you need. Just hands you your room keys and points you to the elevator. We were there for 7 days/6 nights and our room was only cleaned twice, even though we put the green "Please Clean Room" sign on the door EVERY SINGLE MORNING. When we called the front desk to address this, they told us that there's nothing that they can do as housekeeping was already gone for the day. That's it! No other offers of assistance. We then had to request that they at least send new clean towels to us, and their response: "I will see if I can get someone to bring them to you." WHAT?!? You'll see?? Our fridge was never restocked the entire week, even though we had a 3-bedroom suite with 5 people staying in it, and that is part of their package pricing. It clearly lists that there are fully "restocked" refrigerators. We had to call the front desk to request that it be restocked, and they sent someone later that evening with just 3 bottles of water! The fridge is advertised to contain sodas, waters, beers, etc., and they brought 3 waters for 5 people! Don't even get me started on the food service and restaurants. A hotel with an occupancy for 2,000 guests and there is no formal way of reserving dinner reservations for any restaurant except for the steakhouse (which you have to log in the portal at midnight to reserve, and it fills up within 5 minutes!). Are you kidding me? It was like a cattle call every day for food, with lines wrapped around the building trying to get a table for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And for what, because the food is mediocre at best and lacks variety. Everything is crowded, every single day! The restaurants, bars, beach, pools/pool chairs, it was like being in the Hunger Games for a week fighting for your life everyday to find a space somewhere. It got to the point where our kids (ages 12-16) didnt even want to leave the room by day 4 because they were so frustrated with us never finding an area to place our things for the pool/beach. The only thing good about this hotel is the nightly entertainment and the bartenders. That's it. And even that comes with its own frustrations because they only have limited seating in their performance area, so you can never find a seat and end up standing for the entire 1+ hour show. The bartenders are very friendly and pleasant but the line to get a drink is horrific. We came back from this week-long vacation more exhausted than when we first arrived. I promise you, I will NEVER IN MY LIFE recommend this hotel to anyone that I know. We have been to Aruba, Panama, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Curacao, St. Kitts and Nevis in the past 5 years alone. We have also been to Puerto Vallarta 3 times in the past 12 years (staying at other all-inclusive resorts including the Marriott, Wyndham, and Hilton), and this by FAR is the GUTTER OF ALL of the all-inclusive properties that we have ever stayed at! Very disappointed and we will never make this mistake again by staying at a RIU hotel. Sent this to their corporate as well, and of course, they have chosen to not respond. Please do yourself a favor and look for somewhere else. Don't get caught up in their "remodeled" look and decent price points. They are garbage.

  Great food blah staff

  We arrived to no welcome drink , RIU member line meant nothing people in the regular was called up first . This was the theme of the trip consistently being looked over . I’m not a Spanish speaker and you definitely can definitely tell the difference in treatment unfortunately. But the food was great we got our own drinks at dinner and still left tips . The property was clean , beach was great but probably want return

  Great overall experience

  I really enjoyed the food and activities the resort offered , beach front property with easy access . I took away a star because I felt overlooked a few times , breakfast I was never asked about drinks even though the table right next to me was offered drinks . When checking out the front desk guy tried to claim I didn’t have all my towel cards I know for a fact I did when I escalated the situation all of a sudden the 2 missing cards showed up . I’m not sure what he was trying to pull but I’m so organized he just picked the wrong person

  The Good, The Bad, and the Average

  First, the good: The renovations are outstanding, glorious pools, Candy (the ice cream place), restaurants, etc. The sports bar, now in the courtyard area, is much more centrally located than in that hidden off the beaten path area in the past. The food was better than average, drinks superb, and the beige/brown lobby area is far better than that horrendous purple previously. Moka is a nice coffee choice in the morning as well. Now, the bad: The lineups everywhere were completely outrageous. Whether it was at the bars, or at Chipotle buffet in the mornings for breakfast, the waiting time was very long. Even their self serve pool bar area was always guarded by an eager employee gleefully taking charge. The entertainment team was hit and miss. Sometimes they were there all day, but other days not at all or only after 3pm. The resort is too short staffed in all areas, and the activity pool was overrun by mostly Mexican locals and their very extended families. We came back to this resort to see the renovations primarily. It was an overall average stay. I wouldn’t consider coming back until some more time passes and they might possibly get their staffing in order. Probably growing pains after the renovations and not sure how to handle everything appropriately.
