Poor quality food and service all around
Please don’t come to this resort. I’m honestly extremely disappointed with this resort and genuinely do not understand the good reviews. The room smells humid and musty af 24/7 and the bathrooms clearly have mold/mildew buildup around the shower and fixtures. The food has been THE worst outta all Punta Cana resorts I’ve tried.. I was in Bani before coming here eating local food, fried food, street food, everything completely fine. Since arriving at this resort I’ve been in the bathroom nonstop. The buffet is literally the same food every single day with barely any variation and even the reservation restaurants are bland and just overall not really a speciality. 2 days straight they had a Mexican flag up and did no serve any Mexican food. On the 3rd dinner they had an Asian flag and the food was disgustingly and the ‘sushi’ was just extremely food colored rice with ham or cheese or a piece of cucumber inside. A basic sushi recipe could have been as simple as avocado, cream cheese and cucumber. I walked out of the Italian restaurant because the pasta tasted like absolutely nothing even after adding salt, pepper, and parmesan. A real Italian would die tasting this. I could walk to the beach and eat sand that would have more flavor than anything you could eat here. Even the Dominican food (which is the same everyday) is extremely nasty and not an avocado in sight smh. The drinks are watery too and very inconsistent. No drink menus are provided either. The seafood restaurant was one of the MAIN reasons I booked this resort and it was closed. Nobody mentioned that beforehand and it was nowhere clearly stated on the website when is clear they have had it under construction for a bit. Another huge issue is the SMOKING. Like omg these people smoke EVERYWHERE. Pool, bars, common areas even the lobby area they even have little ash trays everywhere for people. Nowhere on the website did it make it seem like smoking was basically allowed all over the resort. Imagine being pregnant, having kids, asthma, or just not wanting cigarette smoke blown in your face all vacation long. The main pool is big but still crowded. People hog the swim-up bars literally all day, just screaming and hollering like they never been allowed outside before. There’s constant splashing and balls flying everywhere, and it’s hard to relax peacefully anywhere without people acting like they own the space. I come hide in the little closed off jetted area in the pool and here comes people with a ball playing in my face. And the pool activities mentioned? Saw one being done at the pool in the 3 days we been here. Also every hour somebody is trying to upsell you something. Spa packages, excursions, memberships, massages, photos, random stuff nonstop. It gets exhausting really fast when you’re just trying to enjoy your vacation. You give the time of day to one person being nice and he gets 2 others to come talk to you. Insane. The service overall has also been underwhelming. I’m constantly saying please, thank you, being polite( as you should ofc) tipping, etc. and basic manners/hospitality feel nonexistent unless tipping is involved. Overall this place feels more like 3 star resort than a relaxing all-inclusive resort experience. The 4.6 review rating is misleading they must be deleting the real reviews. Do yourself a favor, book and AIRBNB and eat out.

I personally would not recommend
I can only share my experience. For me personally, I will not be back and I wouldn’t recommend it. The service was just okay. We were not waited on, you had to seek service after waiting for help. I wouldn’t expect much of an interaction with the staff, which is fine, but I would have liked to have more fun with them and wished they would have engaged back. Please know that we did have 3-4 staff members that were very nice! The restaurant service was fairly poor overall. The last two nights we had better speed. We would have to go get our own drinks and then be scolded by the staff even when we were ignored for 20 minutes. 4 different people would ask you what you wanted to drink and sometimes you wouldn’t get a drink. It was a bit chaotic and you weren’t really sure who was doing what. We got wrong orders and odd substitutions that were not told to you when you placed your order. The Mexican restaurant was just not good unfortunately, and we went twice to make sure it wasn’t just an off night. The food, service and ambiance, all poor. The buffet might be your best bet. We only went one night and I was glad I could find 3-4 things I liked. The lunch food was such a hit or miss. Sometimes completely inedible. Other times the grill on the beach had good chicken and a nice soup, but the sides were never refilled, and people would push/budge to get the one or two good items. The hotdogs and burgers were not good. Those always were available, but the quality and taste was so poor. The drinks were inconsistent, you never knew what your pina colada was going to taste like. I still drank quite a few drinks a day, but you just had to switch it up and go to different bars. I never got a solid answer if the water was safe to drink. I was told it was not filtered. They have a beverage “gun” at the main bar and the swim up bar. Meaning anything carbonated that ran through it was not filtered. This limited the drinks you could have, and unfortunately the main bar was one of the only bars open late. Our room cleaners were good, but they would just let themselves into your room at anytime. Keep your sign on the front and your doors locked when showering/changing. They kept taking our towels and not replacing them. I would have to ask someone for more towels everyday. One day we just had to go without. AC in our room was great! No umbrellas for shade. Best bet is finding shade at the beach! Government relief program affiliate, bussed in a lot of locals during our stay.

Occidental Punta Cana
Just got back on Tue after 4 days in DR. We had a great time. We had some great meals (Italian and Royal for dinner). I preferred the buffet for breakfast as there was more variety but gets busy fast. We sat if Royal section and service was very good and attentive (coffee, juice). Workers were all friendly esp enjoyed the bartenders Alejandro and Carlos in lobby bar, Williams and Mayetin at Royal beach bar during day and Pamela and Samuel at night.. they were always on their game serving drinks quick. Only complaint we had was not enough umbrellas around pools and pool bar was always packed, maybe could have used one more bartender as we find pool bar makes a LOT of frozen drinks which take longer to make. All in all a very good quick trip. Beach was great in DR this year in regards to seaweed so we spent a lot of time there this year.

Horrible experience with this hotel
What should have been a relaxing and enjoyable trip turned into a frustrating, exhausting, and deeply disappointing experience from the moment we arrived. We arrived at the resort at approximately 3:30 PM after a long day of travel, expecting to settle into our room, change into our swimwear, and enjoy our first evening on the beach. Instead, we spent over three hours being moved from room to room due to unacceptable and unsanitary conditions. We were not placed into our final room until approximately 6:45 PM, effectively wasting the entire first day of our vacation dealing with issues that should never have existed in the first place. I do want to acknowledge that the woman who checked us in initially was pleasant and professional. However, the woman handling dinner reservations was incredibly rude and dismissive. Because there were no reservations available for the first evening, we were forced to eat in the main buffet dining area. The true issue, however, was the condition of the accommodations. The first room we were assigned was completely unacceptable: * Water was actively leaking from the ceiling and pooling on the floor * There was visible mold throughout the closet area * The room smelled strongly of mildew * The paint was blotchy and deteriorating * None of the electrical outlets worked * The bathroom sink was clogged * The beds felt damp from excessive moisture and humidity These were not minor maintenance concerns. These were obvious, ongoing problems that clearly should have rendered the room unavailable for guests. We contacted the front desk and were told someone would come assist us. After waiting approximately 45 minutes with no response, we contacted JetBlue Vacations directly. The first representative we spoke with was kind, professional, and attempted to assist by contacting the hotel. Shortly afterward, a bellhop arrived and moved us to a second room. Unfortunately, the second room was only marginally better. It also smelled heavily of mildew, had visible mold issues, and the television remote was covered in what appeared to be food residue or another substance

Second experience was awful
We went oct 2025 it was fantastic So we returned in May. It was polar opposite the pool was filthy for 4 out of our 8 days Our room flooded so had to move 3 times The management offered us a meal but wanted us to sign a disclaimer before we had even been for it. They were not good to deal with. We were going to go back September but have cancelled
