I have to say this resort is the worst😡my husband and travel two to three times a year stays at different resorts and never experiences this .Starting with the sheets and towels are old and raggedy ,the fan and air conditioner runs on slow mode doesn’t go higher so bottom line the room were hot , 4:28 am on our second night there were water leaks in the bathroom over the toilet we called the front desk the same time until 5:30 am someone came and said they have to come back later to fix it, the next day same thing water leaks again yet the problem hasn’t resolved. Not to mention the food was bad no taste and very little options the serve the same thing over and over. I am so disappointed because this trip was my birthday celebration 😡 the reason I give two stars because the people are not and the beach.

Maintenance Issues and Inconsistent Service, but Excellent Spa Experience
Here’s a more polished version with the positives included as well: The hotel had several issues and is clearly in need of maintenance. Nearly all of the elevators were experiencing problems, and cleanliness throughout the property was also a concern. Customer service was inconsistent overall — many staff members, particularly at the front desk and some restaurants, came across as unfriendly or unhelpful. Guests were also eating inside the pools, which negatively affected the atmosphere and hygiene standards. In addition, the food quality was inconsistent throughout our stay. Check-in with Venus at the front desk was very slow, and she did not provide clear explanations or useful information upon arrival. That said, Reina at the front desk provided excellent customer service and was professional and helpful. One of the highlights of the stay was the spa, which was surprisingly good. Nicole gave an excellent massage, and the overall spa experience exceeded expectations. We would also like to recognize Emael at Alcazar, who was especially friendly and attentive throughout our visit.

I recently spent 4 days at Hotel Occidental as a solo traveler looking for some beach time and relax. The hotel offered a perfect balance of everything I was hoping for. I’m not a foodie, but I did enjoy a few à la carte meals. As for the buffet, you definitely won’t leave hungry! What really stood out was the staff they were exceptionally professional, warm, and pleasant to interact with. Their friendliness and attentiveness reminded me of the kind of interactions I used to enjoy in Cuban hotels, which are known for their warm hospitality. It made my stay feel welcoming and personal, even as a solo traveler. Overall, it was a very positive experience, and I would gladly return.

Check-in Policy - Hotel requires a credit/debit card authorization or cash deposit upon check-in for incidentals; this will place a hold on your funds.
Convention Policy - Individuals attending a convention cannot book this property for their stay. If found attending a convention, guests may be subject to higher room rates upon arrival.
Hotel Spring Break Policy - The hotel will not accept any Spring Break groups. If the hotel does make an exception the following policy will be strictly applied: Students / youth are considered by the hotel as anyone between 16 and 23 years old. They will be required to sign a responsibility letter agreeing to leave the hotel if there is a disruption. Upon check in each student / youth will be required to leave cash deposit of $400 per person - no exceptions and cash only. Minimum age requirement for hotel check in is 18. Any guests under the age of 18 will require a chaperone. 1 chaperone is required per 3 students / youth under the age of 18. Minimum age for a chaperone is 28.
Legal drinking age in the DR is 18. Any guests under 18 will be given a wrist band that will not allow them to have access to alcohol at any venue and will also not allow them in the disco. All guests are required to wear wristbands. The cost for a lost wristband is $250 - no exceptions. The hotel does reserve the right to ask any student / youth to check out of the property if the hotel policies are not fulfilled without the right to a refund for the remaining nights of the reservation.
