    Beautiful Resort, Frustrating Service

The resort itself is honestly really beautiful. The property is clean, well maintained, and we never saw trash laying around. The rooms were clean too. It definitely has a fun, lively atmosphere and is very kid/family friendly. We also loved the mini golf and ended up playing twice during the trip. The best staff members by far were the people working the ocean activities, transportation, and bell service. They were super friendly, smiling, and actually made us feel welcome. The downside for us was the remaining service staff, especially with food staff. Most seemed uninterested in attending to guests or impatient at times. It also felt much harder getting service as English-speaking guests. I saw Spanish speakers receiving a much more elevated experience with staff. A few examples: At the food market, we were often well into our meal before getting drinks, or silverware. One time I asked if they had lemonade and there was clearly a language barrier, so I ended up having to go get help and even then it was slow. It bummed me out seeing everyone else enjoying their drinks but I couldn’t even get water or coffee halfway into my meal. One night we called for bath towels. The guy on the phone sounded irritated the entire time. He said 10-15 minutes and it took over an hour. My friend ended up using a dirty towel after showering because we couldn’t wait anymore. We asked reception for a ride to the casino and ended up waiting close to 20 minutes because the request seemed to be forgotten. When we first arrived, I just wanted to break larger bills for tipping and got sent between multiple employees before finally getting help. Mind you - these are only a few examples, I have more. The service was bad enough that it affected the overall experience. Can’t say I’d recommend it or go back for that reason.

    May 2026 Solo F

May 9-16 2026. This review is from the perspective of a middle-aged solo F who has stayed at multiple resorts (6+) in DR. Upgrade to Platinum. My top priority is personal safety. Never once felt uneasy or concerned for my safety. From the minute I checked in until I checked out: in my room, on the resort, at the bars & restaurants, at the pools & beaches- I felt safe. I emailed after making my reservation to request an platinum upgrade and an interior facing room above first floor as solo f: Lomi quickly replied they'd note my request and I was given an absolutely BEAUTIFUL dream room, 3rd floor ocean front! Vaulted wood ceilings, bi-level with tons of closet & drawer space, a sitting room facing ocean, balcony with table and 2 chairs, walk in shower with waterfall & handheld nozzle options, enclosed toilet room, blackout curtains. Zero issues, security visible on property, staff was warm & friendly. Cleanliness: housekeeping came every morning, replaced towels, made bed, restocked water & coffee. They ALSO came every night to do turn down, remove & replace sandy beach towels, check toiletries. My room was consistently very clean, and I adore the housekeepers. Once they realized I was alone, it felt like they took extra care to check on me. Jennifer did my turn down service & was such a kind woman, always making sure I had everything I needed. Food: breakfast at the Platinum Club on the beach was the best part of my days. Upon arriving for my 2nd breakfast there, they brought me my drinks without asking. By the third day, I'd sit down and my food would appear. The 3 gentleman who work there provide exceptional customer service. Buffet was varied with seafood, a pasta station, a grilled meat (prepared to order) station, a Mexican food section (taco meat, fajita meats), a really good bakery section that had a dozen types of breads & rolls, large salad bar. I'm not a wildly adventurous eater but I ate a little of most of the options & had no stomach issues. I did not eat at the reservation-only restaurants but as a Platinum guest, you are ensured reservations if you want them. Drinks: lots of frozen mixed drink options. Presidente or Coors Light were beer options. The red wine is chilled, not too sweet, and certainly drinkable. Bottomless mimosas at breakfast were fun. Had an espresso martini at the Platinum beach bar and they used top shelf liquor, not watered down. Alcohol is plentiful & if important to you, go platinum. Nightlife: there was a show every night at the outdoor theater- entertaining & well-attended. Adults moved to the lobby bar afterwards for dancing. Plenty of smaller bars outside all of the restaurants always had seating, quick & friendly service. I'm not a big party person but there are lots of options for cocktails & impromptu dancing throughout the resort; no dedicated nightclub if that's your thing. Tipping: I tip. $5 for bellboy luggage service. $5 housekeepers per day am & pm. $5 for sit-down waitstaff meals, $2 buffet (for water service but bring your own bc it's hit-or-miss), $2/drink bar service. More people weren't tipping than were (at bars & buffet) so not required but definitely appreciated and remembered by staff. Vibe: pretty much all kinds of people! Lots of families, lots of retirees, mostly couples or families with adult children. The main pool hosted games/dance lessons/activities and had music with a swim up bar but there are multiple other pools- always with lounges available- for a more relaxing experience. Peacocks, iguanas, and all sorts of beautiful landscaping throughout property; it's evident they take pride in their grounds and they're stunning. Seating: Palapa availability was good- TONS of seating in the VIP beach section with the most comfortable loungers and 2 types of shade options (palapa & umbrella). Beaches and pool areas were always very clean (no empty cups, food trash, etc). Umbrella/shade seating was crowded by pools in the afternoon- the rhythm seemed to be beach in the am, pools in the pm. Overall experience was 9 out of 10. The 'premium WiFi' pretty much never worked. You're given a unique user & password for each device- mine didn't work, was told I had to go to guest services, they spent 45 minutes and multiple sign in attempts, couldn't get it to work, and sent me away instructing me to 'try later.' I have global pass thru my US service provider for $10/day so that was an additional expense. I do not advise attempting to do any work thinking you'll have good WiFi & internet. The app is not particular helpful as is not interactive but highly recommend for navigating the resort & familiarizing yourself with daily activities, food options, spa services, etc. The trams were easily accessible & available. Rooms are air conditioned but not cold; I believe it's mostly fan so don't expect 65° to cool off. DR does not have ADA so my 3rd floor room required 6 flights of steps- not an issue for me but travelers with mobility issues should request a ground floor room- there are no elevators or ramps. Mosquitos were not an issue (bring bug spray!) but I was 3rd floor oceanfront. I had a wonderful stay & will definitely return. My experience was comparable to Majestic Mirage adults only premium room (before Elegance was closed for remodeling and those reservations transferred). I have zero hesitation recommending Caribe Princess to solo f travelers and enjoyed one of the best vacations I've had in DR. My review is 5/5 based on what I was looking for at my price point; they exceeded my expectations on nearly every front.

Lost weight at an all inclusive.

I travelled to this hotel as a solo traveller for my birthday and had read that there were good vegan options which swayed my decision. The hotel looked good initially but once you are there you see it has cheap fixtures and fittings with a lot broken, including communal toilet door locks. My room was basic. The light shade was broken as was the toilet seat and despite me putting a notice to say as much it was never repaired. The food was terrible. 0 labelling despite me raising this as a concern. Some staff were very friendly and helpful but others just rude. Breakfast for a vegan is just fruit. The plant milk was off. It felt as though basic food knowledge was poor. Staff didn't know what was in the food when asked. It wasn't a language barrier as I speak a little Spanish. I asked ine lady if it was fish in the pasta, she said no it's tuna! Hmmm. I was left frustrated every day. The veg station was boring, tastelsss and overcooked and drier by the day. Every day was rice and beans for me and this wasn't always nice. Food was clearly just added to the next day rather than freshly cooked. It was extremely disappointing and I actually lost weight. I'm a slim person so really don't need to lose any more. The a la carte was more of the same but fresher. I was so glad to get home and the first thing I did was to order a takeaway. This holiday was definitely not worth the price and if I were to visit The DR again would stay away from here. The beach was lovely, there is seaweed but this can't be helped, however this beach appeared to be the better one on that stretch of the coast as some sections had so much seaweed you couldn't get to the sea with others very little sand. Lots of mosquitoes and in the room at night I was bitten so much. This makes me think there is no effective spraying of the rooms. The sheets were tired, I had holes in one which highlighted the fact they weren't changed that regularly. The reception area is pleasant and the grounds are pretty. Beware of the hard sell for timeshare. Very rude once you get to the resort where they are doing the sell. To the point of intimidating, however this traveller isn't easily intimidated. If you do find yourself here get out and about. It's not dangerous like they say. You just need to use your common sense. It is a beautiful island, go explore. Some of the people are friendly but some, mainly women are rude and unhelpful. The food on the excursions was the same as in the hotel but tasty, fresh and authentic. Every excursion involves stopping off at a shop with the sales pitches. I get it as this is s poor country and the true island people are on poor wages that must make life hard. This us an island where colonisers own everything, Americans and Spanish. Put your money into the locals where you can. Oh yes, the hotel shop is a total rip off. There was a dress that is on Temu for £8, on sale there for 90 dollars. Make sure you bring your repellant, alternatively go out to the supermarkets to buy stuff at a fraction of hotel costs. There is nightly entertainment and they do work hard but it is pretty basic with the same dances for each event. There were some outside entertainers who did a great show one night. There was a jacuzzi which had some green slime in. The pool was ok but I prefer the sea so spent my days here. There is daily entertainment at the pool where people sounded like they were having fun. I would never stay at this hotel again.
