May 23, 2026Bad booking system combined with worse service.
I attempted to make a booking online through the BARCELO website, but the payment page repeatedly reloaded, defaulting to a nonrefundable reservation despite my intention to secure a refundable reservation. I ended up with the non-refundable one. Their iPhone app still shows no reservation, which is useless. I contacted the company, explained the software issues, and requested a refundable reservation, even offering to pay the additional fee. After four emails, the representative (Ms. Yovani) initially indicated a misunderstanding of my request, but then offered to modify the reservation by forfeiting my deposit. Ultimately, she denied my request, citing problems with the booking system. Her tone was dismissive, if not arrogant, and her poor service reflects badly on the brand. I am not certain whether these policies are specific to BARCELO Yucatán hotels, or are chain-wide. I strongly advise against staying at the Yucatan ones and recommend caution when booking otherwise at BARCELO hotels.

Beautiful Resort - feels like coming home
We've just come back to Barcelo Riviera Maya for our 10th stay at this resort. We were greeted by Emmanuel and Emilio with a "Welcome Home" and it honestly feels like we are home and among friends. Every day we have been greeted with such friendly and happy smiles from Emmanuel and Emilio whenever we get off of the resort bus and they always make time to check we are well and enjoying our stay and if there is anything they can do for us. Each morning we are looked after by Madai Aguilar and her colleagues for breakfast, what a wonderful start to each day. They are efficient, friendly and always look after us to the highest standards. Nothing is too much trouble and they go out of their way to ensure everything is perfect. Madai is a credit and if you are lucky enough to meet her during your stay at Barcelo you are sure to have the best service. Marina is the lovely lady who looks after our room. She works tirelessly to ensure our room is spotless. We even have towel animals which we look forward to every day. Our room is always immaculate, cleaned to the highest standard and a credit to Marina's hard work and effort. We have been here this year when two large conventions were taking place. The positive side, the pool is so quiet during the day....until the convention breaks up at about 15:30, then the peace is shattered. The buffet is like a plague of locusts have gone through it and due to low holiday maker numbers a few of the A la Carte restaurants are shut, therefore limiting you to where you can eat. Also be mindful that the Convention people like to party, the bars are heaving and they will party til 03:30am by the pool or on the beach with loud music and shouting. So if you can, plan your stay around the big Convention bookings. On saying that, we still love Barcelo Riviera Maya and we will hopefully return again.

Barcelo Maya Riviera
In May of this year, my husband and I had the pleasure of spending a week at the Barcelo Maya Riviera. It's a very nice and modern hotel. The room was spacious with a large balcony and a stunning ocean view. Regarding the food, breakfast and lunch were buffet-style, with an incredible selection of everything you could wish for. I must mention our waiter, Domingo, who is probably the best waiter at this hotel. He truly does his job with passion and true professionalism, and he has a very warm personality. For dinner, you could choose from French, Japanese, Italian, or Mexican restaurants, all of which were truly delicious. The beach is beautiful, fabulous, and very well-maintained. Finding a loungers was easy. The only problem was that there was a lot of seaweed along the shore, but the hotel staff worked tirelessly to keep the beach clean. Overall, the Barcelo Maya Riviera was a good choice and the perfect place to relax.

Love Barcelo riviera maya AO
carina santos, Angelica and Olga Leonora are our pool waitresses st AO and they are sooo kind attentive and amazing to get us drinks. I remember them from November 2025 especially Angelica. Jennifer, Ali and Michell from pool activities were soo kind . They all help us with Spanish and we help with English. I love getting the same people each year. It shows me that this is a good place to work. I like having family friends here when I b be one each year. Alberto’s, Domingo , Frencesco, Martin in marimar buffet all wished us special anniversary. They do every year. These guys go the extra to make our stay beautiful. We are club members and it’s sooo nice to be loved. Allison our club lady also had a special chocolate and wine treat in our room. What an amazing trip. It’s our 33 year anniversary… thanks to everyone for making it special. Tonight is taco bar and I know Elena, Javier , Jose, Moses and all the staff there will make it special. Our favorite restaurant on property! Love love Barcelo!!!!
