Im happy to have booked at Barcelo for our first trip to Mexico. It was nice to be able to access the other resorts within the Barcelo grounds. The food was good and staff were nice.

Excellent Vacation
This was our first trip to Mexico. Previous vacations were to Cuba, Dominican Republic and Bahamas. We went specifically for the hydrotherapy at their spa, and it did not disappoint. Used hydrotherapy everyday. Had a Swedish massage, a deep tissue massage, a facial and a wrap. The facilities, services, and staff were great. The resort is large, but walkable. It is split up into 6 properties. At the high end is the Maya Riviera being an adult only hotel and giving you access to all 6 properties. Maya Palace is the next step down giving you access to 5 properties (all except Riviera). Maya Beach and Maya Caribe are the next level down. Some of the Maya Beach rooms have Jacuzzis on the balcony. Some of the Maya Caribe rooms have Jacuzzis on the balcony and are swim out. Maya Colonial and Maya Tropical are the lowest level of the 6. Staying at Caribe, Beach, Colonial or Tropical gives you access to all 4. Premium level at any of these gives you a room closest to the pool and beach. It also gives you 1 hour each day at the hydrotherapy spa. Other premium perks include daily à la carte restaurants, free 24 hour room service, Mini-bar restocked daily with water, soft drinks, beer, chips/nuts, and top shelf liquor at bars. The grounds throughout are beautiful with plenty of greenery. You can walk on the beach, cement walkways or tiled semi open walkways between the buildings. Please be careful when walking on the tiles after the have been moped. They are slippery. The food at the Buffets and a la carte restaurants was very good. Had the best rib-eye at Rodizzio, located at the Palace section. We had to pay an extra 400MXN per person since we were staying at Colonial, but it was well worth it. The rib-eye at Sante Fe was also very good. Service was good throughout, staff were friendly and attentive. My only complaint would be that maid service was not to standards including leaving patio door unlocked. Refrigerator was restocked daily with beer, pop and water. Unfortunately there was an abundance of sargassum for the full 10 days of our vacation which made swimming in the ocean nearly impossible. Can't control mother nature. The resort has plenty of pools which kind of made up for it. We are already planning our next trip to Barcelo Maya Colonial.

Barcelo Maya Colonial exceeded my expectations!
For my first all inclusive hotel vacation, I was very impressed. From the cleanliness of the hotel, friendly staff, plenty of amenities to the food quality and all the options just overall exceeded my expectations. Would have loved to have stayed more than five days. My kids enjoyed the kids pool area the most and also liked the nightly kids shows. There was so much to do we did not get a chance to go to the mall, mini golf, bowling that I'm sure we'll get to next time. Tipping was not a problem as you could always ask any server to break a $20 and get back dollars to be able to tip. No need to exchange dollars to pesos unless you plan to go to shops outside the hotel. Overall value was phenomenal! Thank you Barcelo Maya Colonial for a memorable well needed vacation!

Some parts of the resort are great but other things need work. I understand there is a weird issue going on with the seaweed, but the staff could definitely work past 7:00am cleaning up the mess on the beach. there were at least 3 days that basically nothing was removed from the beach, just raked into big piles along the shore and left to stink up the beach until the next day. The restaurant staff often just had us seat ourselves and left us waiting to make drink orders for upwards of 10 minutes. The premium lounge offered very little for snacks and there was rarely and decent mix for drinks, just alcohol. The orange juice in the premium lounge was never change or replaced for days, only when it was finally empty.

Very good resort
We loved our stay at Barcelo Colonial. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The food is delicious and there is a big variety to satisfy every taste. I read some reviews that the reservation system for restaurants needs improvement but we didn't have any problem, we reserved 4 restaurants at the start of our visit and went to the Steakhouse without the reservation and they found a place for us on the terrace. Room cleanliness could have been better, but it is possible that we didn't use the door sign to let the cleaning ladies know the room needed to be refreshed, so no big complains here. We loved the daily performances at Palenque Theatre, the dancer were amazing.
